This is a repeat topic, sorry, but I'm still struggling with it and Symantec
is no help at all! It all started when I did a "Live Update" and that
seemed to screw everything up, I couldn't even get on-line after that! I
loaded a system restore point and I was able o get on-line again, so I
immediately went to Control Panel/add-remove programs and tried to uninstall
NSW but it just froze up at around 75%, so I tried the "SYMCLEAN" tool and
this didn't work either. Finally I downloaded the manual uninstall
instructions and painstakingly deleted every registry entry that the
instructions told me to delete, well, guess what, it wouldn't let me delete
the program folder 'cause it said that an application was still using it,
even though I restarted after editing the registry. This is so frustrating,
how can I totally get rid of this %&#$*&+#%$ program without having to
reformat my drive? Any ideas? If I can just get rid of it, I'll buy thei
stand alone Antivirus program, but I'll never install SystemWorks again.

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Try this:

Reinstall the NSW over what you've got. Don't use LU to update anything
after you've reinstalled. Then, try uninstalling it using add/ remove
programs.

Then, run SYMCLN and RNAV, in that order.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tried this but it still freezes
during the add/remove process! I'm beginning to think that re-formatting is
the only answer, but I sure don't want to do that. I suppose that I will
have to take it to my local computer shop and unload the problem on them for
a hundred bucks :-(

If I were you I'd get the chauffeur to do it.

First make a restore point.

Stop NSW from running on ALL avenues before attempting removal. This
means stop NAV, stop Ghost, stop Cleansweep... Crashguard (if it
exists)... Rescue... Systemworks... Utilities... Web Services, and
whatever other memory-eating junk it's got going for your particular
version.

Generally speaking, ending task on all running Norton files and
services will do the trick, and you can glean a list of those from
your manual removal instructions. Don't forget the one running from
the startup directory. Remember after doing that, do NOT restart your
computer or they'll all be running again.

Then try your Add/Remove (NAV first and don't forget LiveUpdate), then
SYMCLEAN. Before restarting, I suggest manually checking to be sure
all the listed NSW registry entries referring to VxD files have been
removed.

Why do that? Back up your data files and reformat/reinstall. What's the
computer shop going to try that you haven't already?
Did you say you have XP? Try the recovery console and do a non-destructive
reinstall first. If that doesn't work, reformat.
