Norton Status Unknown

MY Windows Security Centre has suddenly started reporting that it cant
determine the status of my antivirus software. Ive seen all the other topics
on this but Im slightly concerned that its something different since untill
now its all got along fine. Ive run live update but nothing needs
downloading. At one point it was also queying my frewall but that
disasppeared when i turned it(the firewall) off and on.
If its just a recurrence of the previous problem ill just solve it using the
reccommendations but Im just after some reassurance its not something else.
 
Norton adds some registry keys that tell the Security Center not to query
its status. I am not using Norton anti-virus/firewall, but when I run Spybot
scans on systems that have Norton, Spybot typically shows 3 registry keys
(Disable Notify). So all that the Microsoft Security Center can check is
whether Norton is running. It sounds like one or more of the above registry
keys was deleted leading to the behavior you are talking about. You should
probably check out the Norton (Symantec) site and search their knowledge
database.
