Irene

I upgraded my Advent 3104 pc, from Windows Me to Xp, just
before Easter, and loaded Norton Internet Security. This
was fine until about four weeks ago, when I discovered
that I could not access my bank details, but as my Bank
was in the process of re-building their web site I blamed
that for my problem. I have now realised that I cannot
access any 'secure' sites because of a campatibily issue
with NIS. Although my copy of NIS was not bought directly
from Symantec I have no reason to believe that there is
anything wrong with the actual programme, but it seems to
have superglued itself to my hard dive and I cannot get
rid of it. Because I am the only one to use my PC, I don't
bother with parental contols, and I am sure I was not
prompted to set up a user account when I installed the
programme. However when I now try to uninstall the
programme I am told that I do not have administrator
authority to do so. I have visited the Symantec web site,
but am also having problems trying to download their
programme RNIS.EXE, as I do not get the option 'to save
the target as'. This whole issue is driving me round the
bend, and I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can
suggest a solution, in fact I am so desperate that I will
almost sell my soul to the devil. I class myself as
a 'techno-virgin' so please try to keep replies as simple
as possible.
Thanks a million,
Irene

I've just managed to solve this problem myself. NIS
doesn't seem to like the default administrator, so if you
are reading this and have the same problem just go to user
accouts in the control panel and set up another
administrator, this second administrator will be able to
uninstall NIS
