I run both of these and use Ad aware free to pick up anything else. Is this
combination sufficient to cover all bases regarding detection? AI also
wondered if there were any compatibility issues running NIS & MSAS together?

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard;
Your off to a real good start... that is, understanding the need for multiple
levels of protection. There can be issues with NIS and MSAS particularly with
the later NIS releases, but my NIS/2004 seems to run well in conjunction with
Beta1. Depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you could have a
few extra applications on hand, particularly if you loose internet connectivity
at some point, or if you want to avoid most malware in general. But you can go
nuts with various combinations, and you can never be 100% protected unless you
disconnect that internet cable. ;)

Have a look at this site and then decide how much effort you want to put into
maintaining cost or cost-free protection:

Thanks for the link Dave.

I should have mentioned that my version of NIS is a non spyware edition. I
use all features including real time AV protection, firewall, and anti spam
including pop up and ad blocking. I also have all features enabled with MSAS.

The only minor conflict is that some NIS users find blank screens when they
go to use the Advanced Tools, System Explorers. This is easily repaired,
fortunately.

Thanks Bill. I haven't encountered such a problem yet. Aside from regularly
removing tracking cookies via Ad-Aware, MSAS has never found anything in 6
months of daily scans. I did recieve some spam infected with a Netsky virus
which NAV picked up about 5 months ago. I stopped using Spybot S&D about June
and have relied on MSAS, Ad-aware and NIS 2005 non-spyware edition since.
Apart from a few problems with updates sticking a while back, it's been all
good so far.

Cheers
Richard

Microsoft Antispyware is going to excel at low-key high quality protection,
I believe--other products will have more bells and whistles, but Microsoft
will do what's needed to keep your machine clean, without spending effort
calling that to your attention.
