Hello

I bought Norton Internet Security 2006 . Whilst installing I was told that
it had detected Spybot, and was 'incompatible' , and that I must uninstall
spybot to allow Norton to install properly. !

I obeyed, and have Norton running OK.

Is there really a conflict between spybot & Norton ?

Is it safe for me to re-install spybot ?

Thanks

KK

My condolences.

I would have stopped right there and asked it why it wants to mess with
my other software.

I'd say there is a conflict between Norton. (Yes, I know there are
supposed to be 'two things' in a 'between' statement.)
Is it safe for me to re-install spybot ?

Yes.

Don't know, but I would never have found out for myself.

Yes
What you really ought to do is can Norton if there are any problems.

Using Spybot S&D with NIS 2003 for several years w/o problems.

Bud

Yes, so did I once upon a time. But with the passage of time and
further development Norton has gotten worse. It is now even more
intrusive. Its system hooks are everywhere.

I only wish I could offer the OP a solution. Maybe somebody else has a
workable idea.

Here's an article that explains the conflict:

I think the Spybot folks are losing a lot of credibility over this. But
then Spybot has really fallen behind the commercial products in the
detection stakes over the last couple of years. If it wasn't free, I
doubt if anyone would even bother with it.
If there is a better product than spybot, then I want to know about it.

The only negative comments on 'SpyBot Search&Destroy' I've seen have the
whiff of an axe to grind. I will say, however, I've never liked nor used
'TeaTimer', but neither do feel any need for its functions.
