An attempt to backup the contents of my C drive generates an image
that is greater in size than the allocated portion of the source.
Here are the details:
The source on the C drive was 19.9 GB
Using Norton Systemworks 2003 Version 6.00 Build 50
The C drive space is largely taken up with XP and Program Files; there
are no MP3s etc.
The destination partition had 19.7 GB free space
The estimated size of image was 13599 MB
The initial time estimate for the dump was 3hrs 15 mins
The message at the botton of the Ghost panel was "Creating image with
compression"
About two minutes into the dump the copied MB was 825 and the
remaining was 75496 MB (approx)
The files in the drive were *not* listed as the backup proceeded.
The source was given as "Local Drive [1], 76319 MB"
Current partition was "1/1 Type:55 [unknown], size: 76316 MB"
When copied size had reached about 22 GB, I got the prompt saying that
current destination was full, asking for new destination space. I
could not tell exactly what the copied size was since it was overlayed
by the prompt message box which could not be moved.
At the time Ghost asked for a new destination, less than 50% of source
data had been copied. The destination is able to hold 98.99% of the
source data *uncompressed*, so whatever the issue is, it is not the
absence or insufficiency of compression.
I have created Ghost dumps of other partitions on this PC without
problems.
Any ideas?
