I have Ghost 2002. I recently set up a network between my wife's
laptop and my desktop. The laptop has an Intel PRO/100 VE NIC (yes, I
went to Intel's website and downloaded the latest NDIS2 drivers AND
followed the outlined procedure. My computer has a Realtek based
chipset, I am unsure of the actual manufacturer. I used the "Planex
FW-100TX Fast Ethernet NDIS" for my boot disk since it had the same
driver name (RTSND). I also downloaded the latest driver from
Realtek's website and replaced it after boot disk creation.
The network consists of two cables and a hub, very simple. The desktop
runs Windows 2000 Pro and the laptop runs XP home (Japanese OS [not
very well but I manage]). The computers can communicate with each
other. To discover the IP address and IP Subnet, 255.255.0.0 on both,
I ran IPCONFIG and PINGed the other from each terminal. I did this for
a few restarts just to make sure the values did not vary since they are
not statically defined.
When I boot up both, the network cards bind and Ghost launches. The
problem arises when I try to connect the computers. No matter which is
the master or slave the connection fails.
I think I have covered all the relevant aspects. I'm at a loss.
Could someone spread some wisdom my way as to what to try next?
I searched this group but there was nothing said that was helpful to
those who posted similar problems (about 2 years past). I'm hoping a
solution is known by now since Symantec no longer supports this
product.

Thank you,
Mark N. McAllister
