I have been trying to install norton Firewall since March 5th. Have uninstalled it 10 times already and reinstalled it. Get the error message driver failed to initilaize. Failure to save settings make sure that windows account is not restricted whatever that means. Trying to get an answer from symantec tech help has been futile still waiting to hear from them since March 5th ready to throw Norton in the garbage. Anybody had that problem

are you installing as an administrator or as a user. as the
user account will not allow you to install software on the
system.

Hi,
You first need to cleanup the previous installation of
Norton Firewall. What you can do:
goto http://www.google.com and type:
uninstall norton firewall
and you will get the link for uninstalling norton
firewall from Symantec.com. Just open that link and
follow the instructions to remove any remains of the
previous installation of the firewall. Then you should be
able to install the firewall successfully

Best Of Luck!

Have done everything that symantec recommends even clean booting the computer still get the same message. another peculiar thig I bought my Cd from staples and their technician tried to install my program and he got the same message. they then gave me a new CD thinking that the CD was at fault, however when I installed today using the new Cd got the same result and funny enough I thought with anew Cd I would have to use a new product key but that didnt come uip on the screen so who knows whats going on. somehow they recognised my computer fron the old CD and my subscription was dated from March 5th which was my first install date. dont understand that

Installing Symantec products can get a little flaky at times,
depending on what other Symantec products are onboard or were
onboard with renmants still residing in the Windows Registry.
(Had this problem before...not using Symantec products any more.)
IIRC, the issue might have involved the Symantec Updater program.
Might need to uninstall all current Symantec products, clean out
the registry and then install just the current versions of the
Symantec programs wanted in the computer.

Hi,

I had problems from the beginning with the new Norton. The old Norton (2000
and 2003 specifically) were good and I didn't have any problems with them.
But after many, and I mean MANY tries with the 2004 version; I sold it at
ebay with a small loss and went to McAfee. I would also highly recommend it
if it(nortons) keeps on giving you a headache.

i also have System works which I installed without any problems and then I installed firewall. Going to give one last try going to phone symantec in the morning and they either fix the problem or I am sending the Cd back to them to get a refund. Someone also suggested Zone Alarm as a firewall . anybody used that one

Hi Margaret,
On ZoneAlarm: I've used it for years and had no problems with it.

I second that.
