After installing XP2 norton antivirus doesn't work. I've done all that
Norton says to do to reinstall ... should Norton have been closed before
installing XP2? What can I do to keep my computer safe from virus?

Yes, Norton should have been disabled. You should disable any anti-virus
program before updating Windows.

Roll back SP2, disable your background programs, then reinstall SP2. Last,
re-enable your background programs.

Not sure why Norton Anti-virus gave you a problem. I updated to SP2 on my XP
HE machine without turning off Norton AV and had no problems at all. Do you
just have Norton AV or do you have the Norton System Works. Check these
articles.

The second one is a list of know program conflicts with links to the
manufacturers sites and possible fixes. Post back if you need more help. I
for one never disable my Anti-Virus program at any time. I never have and
never will leave my OS open to potential attack from unscrupulous
individuals. Your AV should never affect a download or install except to ask
if perhaps you want to Allow this activity. BTW my Norton AV is 2001 vintage.

what version norton (2001,2002,2003,2004?)
update antivirus once a day to be really secure and don't
open attachment's.
