norton anti virus

hi everyone can anyone help with this problem i keep getting a pop up
telling me that there is an update waiting to be downloaded when i do the
task the message comes back unable to download i have been in touch with a
guy from symantec who sent me some instuctions but it too technical for me
i have followed the instruction by going into search files and folders and
the only one i have found is alunotify.ex they say that it should be
deleted can anyone confirm many thanks

have a look in your norton antivirus liveupdate options it sounds like you
have enabled automatic liveupdate but in the "how to keep your virus
protection updated" settings you have it set to "notify me when updates
are available" instead try setting it to "apply updates without
interrupting me (recommended)" if this doesn't work try clicking on the
liveupdate button does that work if not have you tried manually
downloading definitions updates from here
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html which
version of norton antivirus are you running also has your subscription
perhaps expired perhaps you could post the instructions symantec provided
so that someone here might be able to help you understand them oh and by
the way don't be afraid to use punctuation in your posts many thanks and

ALSO SOME VIRUS MAY HAVE INFECTED HIS HOSTS FILE AND IS BLOCKING THE
ANTIVIRUS UPDATE SITES YOU NEVER CAN TELL LOOK IN YOUR HOSTS FILE THERE
SHOULD BE ONLY ONE UNCOMMENTED LINE WHICH SAYS localhost 127.0.0.1
