Hi

Can anyone help?

I installed NortonAntiVirus2003 but soon found this caused my computer
to run at a crawl and also caused the system not to print in word and
also noticed several instances of rundll32.

So with these problems I uninstalled norton2003 and reinstalled
norton2001. Resulting in the computer responding well again - however
since then I now find that my computer will only reboot if I choose
safe mode first, then restart from there. If I just reboot as normal
the computer hangs while loading windows.

My system is Athlon2000 running win98SE
256 Ram
Plenty of harddrive space

Any help would be appriciated

Many thanks

Richard

Hi Rich,

Seems like its a Norton thing - when they think you have had yer moneys worth they give
you an update that makes it crawl, thereby forcing you to upgrade - had the same with 2002
myself as did a friend and it happened on the same day / same update.
I guess they keep more than they lose, but they lost me on principle....

Rich,

Ya gotta love Norton!

Personal Opinion; Norton is a resource hog and there are excellent
alternative AV programs available. Do a Google search for "antivirus
software" and view the results.

I can't agree more in regards to your opinions on Norton or even
Symantec in general. I'm a computer technician and the amount of
call-outs we get for reasons caused by Norton is unbelievable.

To (attempt) to answer your question. Try uninstalling NAV2001 and see
how the system runs. Also try running a scandisk in DOS mode. These are
pretty simple suggestions so you've possibly already tried them. Let me
know and I'll take you through the next steps I'd be taking.

Think I owe norton an appology....

Was looking through the startup files using msconfig and noticed the
following:

Datacaching........FlashKsk.exe

Which is my compact flash reader - looked up at it noticed I had a
card in there from the digi camera - ejected it and now the computer
is rebooting okay... Weird

So have to say thankyou to everybody who tried to help and erm sorry
Norton LOL

Weird tho that a compact flash card could stop the computer from
booting.

Richard..
