Hi,

I was using Norton 2004 but it does not integrate with xp fully. Does
the 2005 integrate better, so that Windows doesn't keep telling you
there is no AV software, etc?

TIA

Using 2005 on two XP computers with no problems.
(disabled e-mail scanning and auto update though)

It may be that you need to update Norton - I believe there may be a few
updates available through LiveUpdate that do not get downloaded automatically.

Load NAV's main screen, click on LiveUpdate and follow the prompts to see
if there are any updates available. I believe it's the "WMI"-related
updates that solve this.

I can definitely say that I know of XP Pro and Home machines with NAV 2004
identify that they are virus-protected.

Try control panel / security centre / then on left of page ''change the way
security centre alerts me'' and un-tick box (s)

Hope I'm on the right track :-)

Sorry, I think you all misunderstood me. NAV 04 does work with xp I
agree. But what I meant was that xp can "communicate" with some AVs
and the XP security window tells you if you are running a firewall or
AV, etc. It also warns you if the AV definitions are out of date.
Norton AV04 does not tell XP this information. I keep uptodate with
liveupdate but I wondered whether the NAV05 added this "feature". At
the moment I am having to tell xp that I am using my own AV and that I
will handle it manually. Thanks.

Look the "Security Nanny Features" are there for the relatively
clueless who need reminding about AV etc every few days. You obviously
don't need any of it.

Turn it off either via the control panel or via

Right Click My Computer > Manage > Services and Administration >
Services

Find the Security Centre entry, double click it and change the startup
type to "disabled"

While you are at it ditch auto updates, its better to know whats going
in and when than to leave it all to MS.

Problem solved.

and that's pretty much the sum total of what the feature does... not
really important in the final analysis (and quite frankly it can be
pretty annoying when windows pops up that "your anti-virus may be out of
date" warning multiple times a day)...

it almost certainly has...

and that should be fine...
