What would keep the actual Norton program from not opening? No matter what I
do, (click on the icon in the task bar, go through Window's Explorer, the
start menu, or anything else-) I can't get the program to open up now so I
can change the options, etc. But, still shows the email protection working.
Anyone have a suggestion on what might be wrong?
Thanks,
Nancy

Thanks,

Nancy,

In spite of the precautions you have described in your earlier emails,
you might be infected with something. There are several viruses out
that shut down and/or prevent anti-virus programs from running. Swen
is one of them, but not the only one.

Not an expert, but I would suggest you go to a site that offers an
online virus check. One place is:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

Click on "check for security risks"

It could be anything. After all, it's Norton. However, some viruses
disable AV programs.

If it's virus activity. you should find that start, run msconfig, or
regedit, or ctrl-alt-delete (task manager) are also disabled. In which
case you probably have Klez, Yaha, SWEN, or one of the other
viruses/worms that protect themselves by disabling things that threaten
them.

No, start, run msconfig, and task manager all work fine. I've run virus scan
after virus scan, nothing turns up. Also downloaded the SWEN removal tool
and ran it just to be safe. Still nothing. But thanks for your ideas. I
wrote Symantec- and they are saying the Norton files themselves maybe
corrupted and have to be re-installed.
Thanks again,
Nancy
