I have 150 XP Pro workstations running Office 2002. I want to hide the preview pane for the Inbox and found the following Articles shown below

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;83256
http://office.microsoft.com/assista...tID=HA010347711033&CTT=6&Origin=EC01055307103

I logged on as Administrator, made the registry code change as described. I then logged in as a user but the preview was still there. The articles say this change should hide the preview and remove the option from the menu. The only way I managed to see any change was if I ran Outlook with the /nopreview option from the run command

Am I doing something wrong?

Just curious; any particular reason for disabling the Preview Pane use for
your users? This means that they have to open each mail before they can read
it which can be found annoying by lots of users. The /nopreview switch is
mainly used for troubleshooting purposes.

Mainly because of the influx of viruses we are receiving (130 hits from McAfee a day). In saying that I was reading several posts where MVP's have said that if you are running 2002 or 2003 with all the updates the preview pane does not allow execution of email or script type viruses. Is this the definitive answer because if it is, it seems to make the whole removal of the preview pane a waste of energy.

Indeed, that was actually why I'm asking. It is not only true for Outlook
2002 and 2003 (although they are the only versions that supports it
natively) but also for the previous versions of Outlook with the
e-mailsecurity update installed. This makes previewing even more secure than
opening the message itself.
