sending authenticated mail Outlook 2007.
it was working and now is not. I am sure it is an outlook problem because
I can send Authenticated mail with OE on same computer. Goggled it but no
joy.
Thank you

And what does your mail provider say?

after 45 mins on hold I hung up (from my provider tech line)
Since I can send authenticated email from the computer in question using OE
and since it did work in outlook and since it does work in outlook on
another computer I don't think my provider can help me. The problem lies
only with outlook 2007 only on my laptop win xp sp3.

Hi Dianne, thanks for replying
It is an imap account, and it is possible there have been updates installed,
but I am not sure. it is a laptop with xp home sp3. The thing is , it
works with windows live mail, and outlook express. outlook will even work
if I go to a different ISP (it works with telus dsl, but not with my cable
isp; smtp server is mail.uniserve.com) It works without authentication but
I want auth because I frequently travel and use different isp.

So it seems it is somehow a combined problem with Outlook 2007 and my cable
provider. Is there some way I can find and or change authentication
methods?

thanks Wayne

So it used to work and now doesn't and you didn't change anything? Did you
install any updates recently? What type of account is it?

So does "authenticated" mean you encrypted your e-mail using the public
key from an e-mail certificate that you saved from the person to whom
you are now sending your e-mail?

Or does it mean that you neglected to authenticate to your SMTP mail
server in Outlook but did it in OE? Go into the e-mail account defined
in Outlook and configure it to authenticate to the server. Don't enable
SSL unless you are using the correct port and your e-mail provider
supports it. Don't use SPA unless your e-mail provider supports it.

This has happened to lots of folk who upgraded to 2007. Changing back to 2003
will fix it!
For me, changing my authentication to "log onto incoming mail server before
sending mail" fixed it - yes, I know that seems stupid but in my case it
worked.
My 2003 computer does not have this problem inspite of using identical
settings.

I would echo Wayne's reply to the patronising other suggestions here.
