I have a previously working NIC that now reports that it
can not be started. Does this sound like a "bad NIC" or
could it have just lost the drivers. If so is that normal?

If this is a recent issue, you might try using System Restore to take you
back to a time prior to when you had the problem. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

If that doesn't resolve it, ry this, open Control Panel, open System, go to
the hardware tab, click Device Manager, click the plus sign next to Network
Adapters, select your NIC, right click and select Uninstall.

Now, shut down the computer, open the case, remove the NIC from its slot and
place it back in the slot, close the case boot the system. This should
fully reinstall the card, see if this resolves the issue.

If not, when you post back, please post the make and model of your card.
