Which of the currently available download managers doesn't use an
installer executable to set up the program?

Thanks in advance,

Which browser are you using?

Which browser are you using?

I plan to put it on my USB key, so whatever browser the computer I am
using is using- which is more often than not Internet Explorer. I do have
Portable Firefox on my USB key though, but I am yet to try it out.

My vote would be for Free Download Manager. I've used Fresh
Download and Star in the past, but I have been delighted with
FDM, especially in concert with Firefox's FlashGot extension.

You can read about it here: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?c=2
&sc=81 and download it from:
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm

It does require installation onto a hard drive first, so it's
not *exactly* what you were asking for, but I transferred it to
my memory key and I've been using it for a while with no
problems. Perhaps it will meet your needs anyway.

I should have added that it will integrate with Internet
Explorer, as well as Opera and the Gecko-based.

I found Getbot, while I was doing a bit of googling, and this looks pretty
good. It's a single executable, although when you first execute it it
does place an entry in the Start Menu.

The program is split into two parts, a download window which monitors your
downloads and a site window. Whilst you get both windows, the site window
is crippled. The download window though does what I want it to do, so I
am happy not to have the site window.

I'm not sure if Getbot fits within the bounds of 'freeware' (it's partly
crippled) but for what I wanted it for it's fully freeware.

I'll give Free Download Manager a go though ?:-)
