Hi,

On my Win 2000 Pro (fully up to date) there are 2 'drives' that at some
stage have been added automatically but which have no physical existence.

1. 'Compact Disc (G:)'
2. 'Removable Disc (I:)'

Clicking on either in Explorer results in the 'Please insert a disc into
drive' dialog box.

Neither drive has ever had a physical existence on my PC, nor have either
of those drive letters ever been used except possibly and briefly as a
temporary networked drive letter (I don't remember).

They've both been there for a while and I've done nothing about them. They
just appeared and I've no idea how or why.

How do I get rid of them?

Many thanks.

PS. All drives connected to my PC, have correctly assigned drive letters
and are working perfectly.

MS,

Right-click MY COMPUTER | MANAGE | REMOVABLE STORAGE | MEDIA POOLS & delete from
there

Right-click MY COMPUTER | MANAGE | LOGICAL DRIVES & see if it's listed there

Right-click MY COMPUTER | PROPERTIES | HARDWARE tab | DEVICE MANAGER & see if
listed there too

Thanks NC.

There were a whole load of entries in 'Manage' | 'Removable Storage' |
'Physical Locations' corresponding to various firmwares of various DVD
drives that have been on the system, almost all with a red cross next to
them. I deleted all that had red crosses. Then in 'Device Manager' | 'Disc
Drives' there were 2 entries that seemed fishy, a non-existent CD device,
and what sounded like an entry for my USB Epson printer. I uninstalled
both, went back to 'Manage' | 'Removable Storage' | 'Physical Locations'
and now these 2 had red crosses next to them, allowing deletion.

All done and phantom drive letters are gone from Explorer.

Many thanks for your help.
