My 1 year old XT9800(Powercolour) is making rather strange noises when
playing 3D games. It locks up and sometimes re-starts the PC. It's fine
under normal, non-3D apps, but I've got a strong suspicion that all is not
well with this card.
I've given it a good clean-up.Removed all the dust and stuff, but it's still
acting up.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

maybe the fan is seizing up..that is the strange sound..the fan under
load..then it is too slow and overheating begins..the card reboots the
system in an effort to save itself.

It's seems stable enough now. Just tried UT2004 and it's fine. Must have
been something stuck in the fan or something.
Thanks.

Don't take chances on frying your card. Put a new fan on it before it's too
late. I have done this with video cards many times. I just get a three
wire 40 or 50 mm fan and tie-rap it to the stock heatsink (after removing
the offending fan), plug into a spare fan connector on the mobo and
botta-boom, botta-bing, fixed.
