first post on here hope someone can help changed the case fan, need to probably change heat sink fan but was wondering does the power supply fan need to be going round?

Yes, the fan on the power supply should always be moving - even if its not making any noise it may just be working at a low RPM. Is it moving on yours?

Its quite likely that the fan bearings have gone - I've had this problem on 2 PCs before. Does the sound go away after a few minutes of usage (or a good hit? not recommended!)?

no the noise is definatley a whirring of some sorts need to get the power supply checked out then can i replace the fan on this?

I'm afraid not, you'll need to replace the whole PSU. Technically, its possible but its not worth it unless you really know what you are doing (dangerous, plus cheap to buy anyway).

wheres the best uk based place to get a psu pretty new to all this but is it an easy job to replace

its easy to replace

all u got to do is replace the old one with a new one and use exactly the same connections in exactly the same places!

with regards to price, if u want a silenced one im afriad it will be pricey.
however i can reccomend one from

www.maplin.co.uk

and on the top right type in A69AU

this is the one that i have its very silent from what ive had of it i reccomend it and its only a score!
:P

psd99,

You'll find most of us "oldies" have replaced a PSU fan at one time or another ... however, I would not recommend you do that unless it is for a dam good PSU ... and it should not have failed on an Enermax/Tigan *type in here your expansive PSU here* in the first. ;)

With the failure of the fan will/can cause stress & strains to the other components via overheating ... sorry, but I would not want to fry the rest of my system for the want of a new PSU.

I too would recommend a new PSU. :thumb:

I am not sure which is noisier and entirely due to the air flow my Latest PC or the Dyson. They never seem to get quieter as the get faster do they.

This is a strange thread isn't it?

Buy a new Power supply.

Do not buy a cheapo.

Hmm, maybe should make that advice a sticky but still some folks wouldn't listen.

I also have a problem. I've just fitted a floppy drive and the power led stays on. What could be the problem?

And if anybody replies to that, I'll shoot them

There's always one ain't there?

No no no psd99 you're wrong.

This is probably the most common problem on any PC technical forum.

Do some research.

What gun I got?

Hmm. Just a hot glue gun. £7.99 from Wickes. With 12 glue sticks.

Lol, it's almost impossible to put the power cable in the wrong way unless you're really determined.

It's the data cable.

When I first started looking at forums that problem came up with regular monotony.

btw, if you have a disk in the drive and connect data cable wrong way, you'll ruin the drive. No disk in drive is harmless.

And what's a BB gun?

BB gun ... American for our air pistols/rifles ... though I think we use plastic pellets these days, too many kids dieing of lead poisoning.

:D

its a Ball bearing gun flops and sir mucks!

gosh u didnt even know that....
lol
