noisey modem

Just a quick one to try and shut my damn modem up, it has
to be the loudest modem ever (obviously when i am
online) , does this depend on the modem or is the
solution generic?
 
control panel, modems, set the speaker volume

See above unless you are using AOL.

If using AOL....

Start AOL
At sign on screen click setup
Click Expert Setup
Click Modems/Devices tab
Highlight the modem listing
Click Edit
Under the Modem Speaker drop down box select Off

Close AOL
