noise from pc

From my desktop was going to use microsoft calendar, all
of a sudden humming noise started emitting from laptop,
no error message, didn't freeze up just the annoying
noise this is the first time this has happened.

- was the noise emitted by the speaker, or from the fan, or the hard
disk, or other noise source?
- what is "microsoft calender" (my hunch is that this has nothing to do
with the problem, but I ask since I never heard of such Microsoft
product ... is it Outlook?)

I had the same problem and the internal fan had to be
replaced.
