Anyone knows the noise levels on the lates S-ATA disks from Maxtor, WD and
Seagate?? Want the most quiet one. :-)

Have recently installed the Seagate SATA 120meg, as my C disk it's much
quiteier than my IBM 60meg ATA

The differnce is quite noticable as is also the gain in speed

My question is can I install a second SATA as I have two sockets on my
mother board and get rid of the ATA hard discs all together

Yes, but...

You won't be able to restore your HD with any version of Powerquest or
DriveImage or Norton Ghost
if you backup to CD's, one of your HD.

Bullshit is too strong a word. Lets call it an honest error.

I own DriveImage2002, and my SATA drive definitely appears
whenbooting from the diskette.

But I had borrowed Drive Image 7 on CD, which requires
one to boot from the CD - and then, surprisingly, the SATA drive cannot
be read.

The above applies only to restoration of the SYSTEM drive.

No thanks, particularly with your inclusion of Ghost in your list.

As it should. The whole point of SATA is that its
backwards compat at the app level with PATA.

Presumably just some wart in DI7.

And certainly does not apply to Ghost or DI 2002.

When you boot an Intel system with ICH5 only 2 of the 4 IDE channels are
available. Only an OS with Intel's driver can see all channels. Doesn't the
manual say this?

Not in the list, but the quietest drives on the planet period are
the RAM-based HDs. No moving parts, no sound at all.
