Actually it is a version of an antivirus programme that is no longer

Putting aside for a moment the mention of crack sites, a "30 day
trial", with *signature database version 1.996* indicates the latest
version of a fully supported nod32 v2.12.2. Yesterday's update to
the signatures in my nod32 indicates:
"Virus signature database version: 1.996 (20050210)".
So, while I'm all for shooting down attempts at piracy, and all the
little nasties that can come along with that sort of program
acquisition, I'm also all for a bit of "accuracy in reporting" as
well.

Eset, producer of NOD32 antivirus, announced today discontinuing of
virus definition updates for its product NOD32 Version 1. All the
current users using the NOD32 Version 1 are advised to upgrade to
the current NOD32 Version 2. The following document describes the
steps to upgrade your NOD32 Version 1 to NOD32 Version 2. To find
out what version of NOD32 you are currently using, click here.
The upgrade to NOD32 Version 2 is free for all the current NOD32
subscribers. If you are not able to use the NOD32 Version 2, please,
let us know so that we can assist you."
