NOD32 upgrades

Hi

Just had an email from Eset encouraging me to update to version 3, and also
to get their "Smart Security" package (AV, firewall, anti-spam etc)

Has anyone had any problems yet with upgrading to version 3 - and any
comments about their package?

Any idea if you can upgrade the standard 2.7 to the version 3 using a
existing 2.7 license? Theres no mention on their website i can see.

Got little interest in the firewall side but the virus scanner is hard
to beat. (unless version 3 is crap)

Personally, I don't think the program is ready for prime time, yet. I am a
Nod32 supporter and really like the product, but I will stick with
Version2.70.39 for now.
 
A colleague investigated a problem machine today which had NOD32 on it.
NOD32 obtained via BitTorrent...
You can guess the rest!

I upgraded to version V 3.0.551 and a day later
I upgraded to version V.3.0.560
of NOD Antivirus for WinXP.
(uninstall previous version/install newer version)

It is nice of you to direct me to the Wilders ESET forum,
but what are the problems you refer to?
So far everthing seems to be working fine with me.
 
Boy am I glad I've become cautious in this computer business - I think I'll
wait a few months and check again.

I've seen *none* of the problems reported there, and it's working very
nicely for me so far. The new look control centre took a little getting
used to, but no prblems, and all the features are now well integrated
there. A nice touch was that it immediately downloaded and installed the
latest definitions as soon as installation had finished.

I'm not saying that posters in that forum are not honest, but it looks to
me as though they may have been unlucky. The PCs we use are almost
infinitely variable combinations of hardware and software. So, YMMV.

First of all, I don't believe I directed YOU to anything, unless this post
is an alias from FredW. So, to answer your question, FredW, read the
postings at the site. I merely read through the group and found several
things that were unaccepable to me...not that they will apply to every user
of Nod32, but enough of them to cause me to be cautious and wait awhile.

My feeling is the version I am currently using is working just fine and I
have no reason to rush to update it.

Also, please note that the OP said "Has anyone had any problems yet with

..... and thanks again - it seems to me that the big change Eset have
introduced beyond appearance is to move to using a proxy server approach.
This is something I know little about, but sounds as if it might explain the
problems some users have had with other software such as firewalls. I use
independent antispam (Cloudmark) and antspyware (Superantispyware) and I
also use "dropmyrights" with internet explorer. In the forum there is one
post to "dropmyrights" no longer working after installing NOD32 vs 3.

So far I haven't sen anything in Eset's promtional stuff to indicate that a
proxy server is now being used. I wonder if they tell you when installing
that settings are going to be changed on your computer?

I even told an email friend in AU of your concern,
and she promptly reverted to the previous version,
because she had some kind of trouble with the updates.
She was relieved to see she was not the only one with problems.

Yes, but a large forum with hundreds (thousands?) of threads is
something like "looking for a needle in a haystack".
Maybe you could have indicated some of the "several things"
you found unacceptable?

Well as the OP who was grateful for the link to the forum, I found quite a
small number of threads in total, and a perfectly manageable number of
threads linked to my query - not hundreds/thousands - no "needles in
haystacks". Within a few seconds of browsing I could see the "several
things" with no problem. Were you looking somewhere else?
