Nod32, the best?

What are peoples general opinions on this AV Software? I have tested the
trial version and loved it. I have had all the others before,
McAfee/Norton/Kav/F-Prot/F-Secure etc. and not have been as lightweight and
effective as NOD32.

So before I take the plunge and spend my hard earned money on it, what do
you guys think and do people know of any problems there are with this
product?

Thanks bill. Further to my original post, does anyone know where I'm
supposed to buy this from?! There seems to be two alternative sites!

The first, http://www.nod32.uk.com/purchase/purchase.htm uses paypal and
there you can purchase a single home user license for £24.95.

The same product, a single home user license, can be purchased from
http://www.esetsoftware.co.uk/ /
http://www.aspect-systems.com/main.asp?intTopicId=123 for £24.00 exlcuding
VAT, which makes this approx. £30.

Which one did anyone buy it from?

Does second to none mean the same as next to nothing?
After all,
their support is mainly via nymshit remailers in this group. <G>

Have you ever emailed them for support? Apparently not. I've found
their response to be timely and effective.

Never had to, since I don't use the product, just seems that a lot of
the people that tout that program tend to cloak their identities for
whatever reasons that implies.

yeah, I don't know what that's all about. But I've used it and used
their tech support. I was impressed.

I used NO32 for over a year and will NOT be renewing my subscription.
REASONS: (1) NOD32 is incompatible with BoClean. Use of NOD32 v 1 and v 2
and the latest version of BoClean causes Power Management to fail (no
standby). (2) I wrote to NOD32 several times, never getting a coherent
answer regarding the problem. (3) I wrote to BoClean and got an answer
immediately, and they spent quite along time looking into the issue.
Delicately put, they do not believe that the problem is with BoClean and
they had some specific concerns re NOD32 that I am not at liberty to quote
here. (4) NOD32's "file exclusion" feature is buggy. Even when set on
permanent (rather than temporary), it treats the exclusion as temporary
(resets it on reboot). I wrote to NOD32 several days ago on this and have
yet to get an answer. (5) My experience with NOD32 is that their tech
support, far from being "second to none," is *very* poor.

I'm not going to defend NOD32 or its technical support. I let my license
expire over a year and 1/2 ago.
But, if you run any AV resident with BOClean, you're likely to have
problems. If you're going to run BOClean, disable your on-access AV scanner.

I've been using NOD32 since it was first launched. But my licence was due
for renewal again.

I haven't renewed it, but changed to AVG (version 7). I think NODE32 is a
'good' product, but the latest version (IMHO) is not the product it could
have been.

NOD32 is much lighter on system resources than the major players (Norton,
MacAfee). Not being a AV expert I can just say that I preferred to spend my
money on AVG (after testing with AVG 6 FREE and version 7 trial).

Maybe I just fancied a 'change' - I've never bought the same car twice
neither :-)

Well I have run NOD32 v1 and v2 with BOClean and not had any problems.
I also have used Norton 2004 and Kaspersky 4.5 antiviruses running
them with BOClean and again never had a problem. I don't have an
answer for why it has not worked for this person or others who may
have had a problem, but I believe you will find many people who run
BOClean along with their chosen AV without any problems.

Now as for NOD32 being the best, the simple answer is no, it is good
but so are a number of other AV products. I do not believe there is a
single best AV program, but I do believe that there are a couple
better than NOD32. Don't get me wrong I like NOD and use it as a
backup scanner, but I think there are others that are a little better
overall. There has been a discussion about "NOD in the real world" and
it was asked if anyone had been infected with a virus while using NOD.
To date I have not seen anyone say they were so it seems to do the job
for those people who use it to protect their systems.

And I've tested it in combination with NAV 2002/2003/ CE 7.61 and NOD32 and
have had issues with all of these combinations.
In fact, the developer acknowledges some of the issues.

So, what else should it be doing? Why else does anyone use AV
applications?

I have seen NOD32 on 2 seperate Networks, where it allowed Trojans
load into memory, and also refused to update itself once infected, and
kept pleading inability to clean infection. (with current licences in
both cases)

I used Kaspersky boot discs to clean both networks, both organisations
have since switched to KAV, with no further problems.

Well that is the thing I guess with NOD32, they market it as an
antivirus, not an antitrojan. It does detect some trojans, but
according to what I have read it's primary function is to stop
viruses. They feel trojans are a different beast. Whether you, I or
anyone else agrees or not, the people at ESET designed their program
to stop viruses and market it as such.
