Hi all,
I'm runnint Vista32 Ultimate edition.
I've been a Norton user for over 15 years; but have had enough of it's
bloated foot print. I'd rather get a virus then deal with the type of
performance degredation Norton is causing.
Anyway, I've been looking at NOD32 and Avast and would like some advice from
all of you who have used either.
Thanks
Having used both, in either XP or Vista, at one time or another, I
suggest you settle on NOD32 Antivirus. While it does cost around $40US,
it is probably the BEST AV client in existence.
While Avast Home version is "free", it is only "average" as a
virus/trojan/rootkit detector-remover". But it looks really "nice", and
has that neat moving icon in the Notification Area.
I am currently using Trend-Micro Internet Security 2007, and for these
reasons:
1) It is an "all-in-one" suite, containing AV, AntiSpam, Firewall,
Wireless protection, Parental controls, and Web site filtering.
2) It's "footprint" is nice and reasonable.
3) It seems to not use many resources in XP or Vista.
4) It does not slow down my machine, either in XP or Vista.
5) It's the most reasonably-priced ($49) suite.
6) It's efficacy is close to the top of the heap as far as being an
antivirus detector/remover.
It's ONLY bad part is it must be activated each time it is installed. If
you change anything about your HD (such as changing the Volume Label or
Volume ID), it will use up one of your THREE installations supplied with
the product. This means it may be installed on a maximum of three of your
machines at any one time. To reinstall it, you have to juggle around the
three allowed registered users, if you've already installed in on three
machines, or REINSTALLED your OS "clean" even ONCE.
