nod32 and "Outlook not the default mail handler"?

So, I just tried the trial version of nod32 for XP and every time I start it
or bring up the control panel, I get a popup from Outlook saying "Outlook is
not your default message handler, set outlook as your default handler and
try again" (or something to that effect).

I *know* Outlook isn't my default mail program - I don't want Outlook to be
my default mail program.

What the heck is this? I just wanted to see if I could find a nice
unobtrusive little program that would scan the disk when I asked it to. Why
is it trying to compose messages in Outlook?

Just curious. (Uninstalling fixed all my problems :-).

I don't blame you ;o)

It's just a little ahem! "operating feature" of Outlook (see bug)
According to Nod32's FAQ's "This message box is displayed by Microsoft
Outlook when NOD32 tries to access MAPI32.DLL." Nod32 are working on a fix
for the next release.

You always have the option of uninstalling Outlook, but if like me you
need Outlook as a *non-default* client for accessing a M$ Exchange server,
just ignore it.

Which one, Outlook or Nod32?

I was given a registry fix by the folks at NOD back when I was using the
product. I don't remember exactly what I did, but, if you email the NOD
support people, I'm sure they'll give it to you.

Sounds like I want to wait for the next release and maybe try again.
I don't want my anti-virus program accessing mapi. Thanks for the pointer
(seems like a long time ago there was some other program I had that
did this - must have been doing something similar).

You need to uncheck the option for "use the mapi interface" in NOD's
setup. This will stop the error from occurring.
