NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT F11(RECOVER!!)

Hi,

Just wanted to pass on to any other new winxp users that I bought 2nd hand
computer and could not open windows xp home.

Mostly people suggested total reinstall, nobody told me I could do it FREE
by hitting f11, until one tech guy on the phone told me and I tried it and my
2nd hand computer is totally REINSTALLED AUTOMATICALLY!

I just want others like me to know about this because I nearly had to spend
hundreds of dollars and never really needed to.

Only works on your brand and model of computer - which you NEVER bothered to
mention! You were just as vague in your other posts, too

This "tip" is useless to anyone but you or to whomever else is using the
same brand and model of computer - but no one knows WHICH brand and model of
computer that you have. All F11 probably did was run an option in the
bastardized OEM version of Windows that was installed on that particular
brand and model of computer or use a function in *that* model's BIOS to
perform an image restore of the OS partition. That is, F11 on *your*
computer used an image file from a hidden partition to overwrite your OS
partition.

So folks told you to perform a reinstall, and that's what you ended up
doing. It's not their fault that they could not be more specific because
you never mentioned WHICH brand and model of computer that you have. They
told you generically to do what the tech told you to do specifically and
probably what the manual also tells you to do (if missing the manual, many
manufacturers have downloads of their manuals from their web site).

For perfectly sound reasons....

That's because that specific recovery method is unique to your specific
brand of computer. It will work only on that computer; it's of little
use to anyone else.

Or you could have made sure that the computer worked *before* buying it....

I just tried that, and my browser went to fullscreen mode. <g>

Seriously, I think that must be a nonstandard feature of some specialist
machine, never heard of such athing on a normal PC.

Some OEM PCs (e.g Acer) use F12 to activate booting from CD. Might it be a
similar reason why it worked?
