I have no WPA WEP choice in my network properties set up. Network
Authentication gives two choices Open or Shared. Data Encryption choices
are either (only) disabled or WEP. No WPA, or shared Key or anything.
Right now I am using WEP and am connected OK.
Anyway to get WPA active?
Is there a down load for WPA not part of XP2?
Is there some way to tweak Wireless Zero (if that is a problem)?

XP-2 with all downloads up-to-date.

I neglected to say this is about a WiFi network connection, which is
over wise working properly.

All your hardware has to support WPA - the router and all the wireless
network adapters in your computers. Sometimes you can upgrade older
hardware with a firmware flash - check on the hardware mftr.'s website
for information about your specific devices. Otherwise, you can replace
your older router with a newer one - but again, all your wireless
network adapters would also have to be newish enough to support WPA.

Thank for for the tip. I will try to update my router firmware. I assume
that without WPA compatibility with the router, my computer, it self,
will not show WPA as an option. (I have found and installed the MS XP-OS
update KB 89335-V2 but WPA still does not appear. I now devote attention
to the router.)

Exactly. If you don't have the option, your router doesn't support it.
Wireless routers are under $70USD so if the mftr. doesn't have a
firmware update for your current router, you could just replace it.
Remember though - all your wireless network adapters also need to
support WPA so check them out before updating the router. You don't
want to spend time and money replacing it and then find out your
wireless adapters don't support WPA.

In addition - if your Wireless Network device (NIC) does not support WPA -
then no matter if your router does or not - you won't be able to use it.

From your post, I am betting the reason (or at least the reason you will end
up with) for not being able to use WPA is the fact that your wireless device
in the computer itself does not support WPA - and not (necessarily) your
router. You may have both problems - and thus - need replacements for both
if you desire to use WPA.

My wireless router does support WPA. It is set right now for WEP rather
than WPA. Does WPA only show up in my settings if it is turned on in the
router?

As far as the NIC, it was supporting WPA before I had the minor
catastrophe of having to reconfigure (start from reformat vanilla
scratch) my computer. It may be that the Intel firmware upgrade for
Centrino Intel Wireless Pro 2100 B needs to also be applied. I'll report
back.

The secret was installing the updates for the NIC. Now, WPA is a choice.
Thank you all.
