Sorry if this has already been addressed here, but the
web reader's search isn't working.

I'm trying to get a Cabletron wireless adapter to
connecto to my wireless network. The computer is running
Windows XP Home Edition (starting to feel like "Half-
assed" Edition).

The card diagnostics indicate it is working properly, and
I have the latest driver installed, but it doesn't see
the wireless network. SSID and Channel are both set to
the correct value.

One of the things I was told to check is the status of
the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Well, this
service does not exist on this machine. From what I have
gathered from the MS Knowledgebase this is a known
problem and there is a Hotfix for it, but they don't make
it available.

Anyone know what the problem is and any clues as to how I
can resolve it?

I am having a similar problem. I am using XP Pro and
have a linksys adapter installed with the latest driver,
etc. I have my WAP broadcasting my SSID, but my computer
doesn't see the network. Even worse, the "Advanced"
button is grayed out so I can't manually input the
wireless settings. I was just wondering if you had found
a solution to your problem yet?

Thanks,
David

The "Advanced" tab on the utility that is suppose to
display the wireless networks (double click on
disconnected wireless connection in system tray) s also
greyed out for me.

I haven't found a solution yet, but I suppose it is
helpful to know you are seeing similar behavior in XP Pro.

David,

I found the solution in a different newsgroup.

Courtesy of Bar Bowman, Expert Zone Columnist
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone):

Run REGEDIT and find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSV
C
add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2"

I haven't got my adapter configured yet, but this change
made the Wireless Zero Config service show up finally in
the Services manager.

Open services and scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Service, Start
the service and set it to automatic. If it does not show in the list of
Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and
value "2"

maybe you already found a solution by now, if not: the reason for this
behaviour is the Wireless Zero Configuration of Windows Xp. This build
in functionality manages any wireless connection it detects.
In order to get your linksys to work you need to disable the WZC
service (just stop it and set it to Disable) and install the linksys
utility from the CD>utilities>Setup.exe. Start the Linksys monitor,
define your SSID and correct channel and there you go. Hope this
helps.
