No Windows after video upgrade attempt

I tried to upgrade the video card on one of my PCs. Following the
instructions, I had to uninstall the current card and drivers, but somehow I
have managed to disable the video completely. What happens on boot is the
initial Windows screen, but do not get the Welcome screen displayed (or
anything beyond that). The PC is loading windows behind the scenes as I hear
the welcome music etc.

I am running Windows XP Home, have been able to get into the recovery
console, but am not sure what to do. Also, modifying boot.ini and adding
/basevideo and /sos but these do not seem to have helped.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

Try to boot into Safe Mode and perform a System Restore back to a point
before the problem started.

Sorry, I should have mentioned before that booting in Safe Mode had the same
problem, so we couldn't restore.
