have an xp pc that has been working fine, connecting via vpn to work and
then synching mail - could also access stuff on server.

have just installed a wireless network at home with wap security and now I
can connect via vpn but cannot access the folders or my mail.

am not sure where to go from here

Can you ping remote computer IP? make sure both sites don't use the same IP range.

yes- that was the problem - the router had the same ip as the server at work - have changed the router and now works like a dream

thanks
