I bought a new computer with Windows/XP Home Edition and
installed the hard drive from my old computer. Its a
Maxtor 91190D7 11G drive. XP Device Manager acknowledges
the device (and all the correct parameters) but does not
assign a drive letter/volume to it thus I cannot access
it. I've set the jumpers according to the Maxtor web
site but no luck. Any help?

The hard drive cannot appear in Windows Explorer or My Computer
until it has been partitioned and formatted. Right-click My Computer
Manage > Disk Management. Create and format partition(s) on the
second hard drive as desired.

what if you have a drive, 20GB in my case, that isn't
recognized by Computer Manager and Disk Management, but
is recognized by the BIOS. Then what does one do?

THanks

.
But won't that overwrite all the data on the hard
drive? I probably wasn't as clear as I could have been.
I installed the hard drive from my old computer as a
second drive so I could copy over some larger files. I
would like not to reformat.
