Here's is the situation. Someone please help. I have no volume control in my
task bar. When I went to Control Panel/ audio, and i checked off a box that
should have put the icon in the task bar but I receive an error. It states
that the Volume Control Program is not installed and must be for this feature.
Where do I get this program. It came with the computer, I did a Windows
Update and it disappeared. I have Windows XP PRO.

Thank you,
Leo

The file sndvol32.exe may be corrupt.

Re-install it from the XP cd using Start > Run > type in msconfig > OK click
on Expand File and install the sndvol32 into c:\windows\system32 folder,
overwriting the old file.

Then activate the the check box for the icone.

Also, update your soundcard driver to XP specific drivers.

Same procedure except point the Expand File to the place where the .ex_is
stored.

Those directioins are incredible and I get everything done but as to where to
restore from, it is asking for a ".cab" file. I have my xp restore disc in,
etc, I have the sndvol.ex_, i know where sndvol32.exe goes, I just need to
know what to do with "restore from" command line in "expand one file from
installation source"
thank you in advance for your help
