Depends on your definition of quiet. Editing your init$ in the properties box will change it's
operation. "AT L0M0" will be quietest but you'll never hear anything. L0 makes the volume
quietest, or off (values 0 thru 3). M0 turns the speaker off and keeps it off; values 0 thru 3 also
but I don't recall all the specifics these days. I recommend M1 tho.
Now that I think about it, you probably don't have to put "AT" in the init$ in the properties box.
Winders may add it to whatever you put in there automatically, dunno.
Of course you could always store your init$ in the modem's NVRAM so it uses it when it powers up as
opposed to when Winders tells it to shut up. Don't know if software modems will do that tho.
Let's overclock(sorta) your modem a bit. Putting AT S11=50 will make it dial a little faster than
the default. You can experiment a bit. You can also add the commands in the Winders modem field.
Like this;
AT L1M1S11=50
I have recently done a clean install on Win 2000 and the
modem makes a hell of a noise as expected when
connecting,...before the install I remember entering
numbers using the modem properties box because the volume
control is ghosted out and not seemingly adjustable, this
gave me a quiet properly working modem,...DOES ANYONE
KNOW WHAT THE NUMBERS ARE PLEASE!!
