For some reason I cannot use voice with my messenger. I
have been able to use it since day one. All of a sudden I
cannot. I read some posts about unchecking the QoS packet
scheduler. On mine its checked yet grayed out. either
install or un-install are my options.

I use a dialup connection with no firewalls that I am
aware of. Any and all help would be appreciated. email or
post here .

Thank you

How did the QoS get installed if I did not set it up? And
why did messenger work up until now?

Sam

The QoS Packet Scheduler is a network service that is
installed by default, on Windows XP . Under normal
conditions, it should NOT cause voice/video communication
problems in Windows/MSN Messenger. However, recently a
lot of users have been having problem (including myself)
and either disabling it or uninstalling it (dialup users)
seems to allow voice/video chat to work.

The problem just appear out of the blue, as it was
working fine about a month ago. I think it may be a
recent Windows update that may have caused this problem.
The odd thing, is that not everyone is expericing this
problem. MS and Jonathan has been made away of this and
are still investigating.

BTW - Out of curiosity, those who are expericing this
problem. Have you recent installed XP and/or any Windows
updates, ie. SP1a??

I found out it was not my machine but my friend who is
running windows 98. seems she has lost some files that
allowed us to communicate.

We are trying to find out how she lost these files short
or restoring her windows enviornment. Must be some
network client files.

thanks for responding

I'm reading this and have dsl and our Q0S looks the same
way as his. Do we need to uninstall our QoS in order to
have voice on our dsl?
