No video on bootup with new USB PCI board

I have an old motherboard, with Pentium III & 256mb ram. It was working
fine until the built-in USB failed to work. The rest of the computer
runs fine. I have tried reseating the motherboard connector, replacing
the motherboard connector with a new one. None of that works. So I went
and bought a new PCI USB 2.0 board to bypass the motherboard connection.
However, when I install the board, then turn on the power to the system,
I do not get any video at all. When I remove the USB board, it works
fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Craig

Don't waste money buying parts for a very old, obsolete
mobo/computer that is failing of old age.

Buy since you have already wasted the money, try the PCI
card in a different slot or edit the IRQ so it works.

Try a different PCI slot

or reset the bios

Thanks Jim,
I would not do this, except I am in Brazil and do not have access to a
newer computer, so the card was the best thing to do at this time.

I've tried a different slot for the card, but it did not work either.
I've moved the network card to a different PCI slot and put the USB
card into there. No joy. And I removed the network card and it still
didn't work. I tried disabling the on-board USB (it wasn't working
anyway), and that didn't help.

You mention to edit the IRQ. How do I do that? The bios doesn't have a
way for me to select the IRQ for the USB or PCI slots.

Appreciate your response, and hopefully you may have some insight into
a solution here.

Thanks Philo
Jim suggested the one of the same things and the different PCI slot
didn't work, unfortunately. I did reset the bios, but that did not help
either.

If you have any other ideas, that would be great. I'm almost at the
point of giving up.

Craig

You can see and edit the IRQ in Windows, when you do have
some video.

You have a power supply that can only handle so much hardware. Also, they
don't live on forever. Try a better/more powerful PSU that you know works
well and see if that cures your problem. It seems your USB board is pulling
you over the edge.
