just got a used puter from someone, monitor is on but no picture. Get a "no
video input, check for signal" message. I checked all wires and cables all
looks good. any ideas?

Does the computer have a graphic card or integrated graphic chip on the
motherboard? Either way one or the other could
be defective.

Did the monitor come with the PC? If not, did the PC have the same or another type
issue with graphics/video before you acquired the PC?
Have you tested the monitor on a different machine or tested a known good working
monitor on the acquired machine to rule out or verify that the monitor is bad/good?
Does the monitor have any way to reset it via either button or setup menu?

If you find the monitor to be in good working order, check in the BIOS to make sure
the correct video type is selected for the type video card/adapter/chip.
Check the manufactures support site for video drivers for your make/model video
card/adapter/chip, download and install them per the manufactures instructions.

If still no joy, install and test with a known good working video card/adapter in a
PCI or AGP slot.
