No Video In on my Vivo

Peter

I have the Vivo 64MB video card and I'm trying to get my video in to work.

I recently installed XP on my PC and I didn't install any drivers for the
video card because I thought XP took care of all that????

Since then I've tried running video in but of course I can't because I never
installed any multi media centers. So I d/l 8.1 I believe from the ati
website where it told me it couldn't find the driver. so I pulled out my old
CD and installed the driver even though XP told me it wasn't a certified
driver or whatever it tells you.

Then I went to run video in and it told me I needed Direct X 8.1 or better
which d/l and installed. I went to run video in again and it told me that
direct x was not found. Then I rebooted and my desktop was about twice as
wide as the monitor screen. so I turned off the pc and booted again to find
it back to normal. But then periodically it would boot up like this.

Since then I've tried uninstalling everything I could to get the PC back to
normal but I'm very confused.

1. If I have XP installed, do I need to install ATI drivers? If so, what
driver to do I use and where do I get it?

2. If I d/l MMC, which version do I d/l?

3. What other components do I need to d/l in order to get everything up and
running correctly and what components are a waste of time to d/l and
install?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Step 1. Install latest AGP chipset drivers for your motherboard.
Step 2. Install DirectX 9b via Windows Update.
Step 3. Install latest drivers and MMC at ati.com

you forgot to mention the windows media encoder.

Hi Peter,

go to ATI's website (www.ati.com), select "drivers & software",

select Windows XP - Graphic Driver - Radeon Family - Go

Read the Instructions, download the files (there is a hot new version,
just a week old), then go back to "drivers & software".

select Windows XP - Multimedia Center - Radeon ViVo - Go

read the instructions, the installation tips and download.

Don't forget to download the Windows Media Encoder.

Read everything again, uninstall the old drivers (there are instructions
on the web how to do a clean uninstallation) and install the new ones.

Klaus

PS: If your ATI CD is too old, you might need an older version of the MMC
like eg 7.7

I have the same problem.

I used to use my Radeon 7200 VIVO to record TV via Video In. I recently
upgraded my main PC with a new MoBo/CPU/Radeon 9600XT and kept my old
MoBo/Radeon 7200 for displaying/recording TV.

It says "Unable to Start TV" when I try and view video in. I can hear the
sound, but get no picture.

I've tried Catalyst 4.1 and also 3.10 - still no joy.

Where do I get the Windows Media Encoder? Maybe I'm missing that part of the
driver configuration?

Cheers,

Carl

I bit the bullet and went WAAY back to an older version and it now works. I
thought driver releases were supposed to cure problems, not create new ones!

I'm now running my Radeon 7200 VIVO on Catalyst 3.7 with MMC v8.6 and can
see/record video as I used to. I daren't upgrade now I've got it working!

There is a link to it on ATI's MMC download page.

that's about the configuration I'm running with my HIS 9000 pro VIVO.

I just had no time to upgrade, and I won't upgrade until I either have
to reinstall Windows for whatever reason or I had time to do an image of
my 90 GB drive C: (of which some 30 GB are used by now.).
