No video-conferencing alternative for Net Meeting

Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom to "improve" its users' experience, has
omitted Net Meeting from all versions of Vista. The "substitute," Windows
Meeting Space, doesn't support video. Microsoft suggests using Windows
Messenger Live. That's completely unacceptable in that it is (1)
server-based, and therefore less secure than a peer-to-peer connection, (2)
requires going outside the infranet for purely local conferences, and (2)
requires using the hideous, intrusive and insecure Windows Messenger.

I've been fine with Vista up until I discovered this today.

What are those idiots thinking, anyway?

I can't help you with what the idiots were thinking...

There is a partial solution on the Microsoft web site. Search for NM30.exe
It allows most functions including sharing an XP desktop, but doesn't allow
sharing of the Vista desktop.

Thanks but, unfortunately, it won't install under Vista. I don't need to
share my desktop -- just video conference. It looks like it's going to have
to be Skype or something like that. I have no intention of opening up my
computer to Microsoft Messenger.
