no USB printing support

I had to reformat my C: drive and reinstall all my software. In the interim,
my new Canon printer arrived. I attempted to install it but it fails when it
gets to the point of selecting the USB printing port, as one doesn't yet
exist, and Windows isn't making it available for the printer. I have checked
in the i386 folder and the files are there, but not presenting in my device
manager. How do I fix this?
Thanks!

Cary,
I used the mfr recovery process to reformt my C: drive and start from
scratch. It sutomatically reinstalled everything that came withthe laptop.
My USB ports are working great, Windows just isn't presenting a USB printing
port for my printer during the install. Do you have any other thoughts?
Thanks!
Sue

Did a CD come with the printer?

If so, the install sequence is usually:

With the computer swirched on and windows running but with the printer
_not_ connected to the USB port, insert the CD that came with the
printer into the drive. I should auto-start. Install the printer driver
and other support files by following the on-screen prompts. Do _not_
connect the printer to the computer until the installations instructions
or on-screen prompts tells you to.

When the printer is connected to the printer port at the appropriate
time, it shoujld be automatically set up. Follow the on-screen prompts,

Let us know.
