HI!

I am not able to retrieve Defender definitions files behind a proxy
server. I did not find any configuration section for configuring
defender to use a proxy. In addition defender seems to ignore any IE
proxy settings.

Is there a way to connect through a proxy server?

Many thanks!

Updates within the program are done using AutoUpdate. AutoUpdate won't work
through a proxy which requires authentication, but it should work through
other proxies. However, in a corporate network, AutoUpdate may be routed to
a corporate server. If that server is a WSUS server, the administrator can
enable Windows Defender definition updates to be provided through it.

If authentication is the issue, the workaround is to allow unauthenticated
access only to the Windows Update servers.

You can also update manually by going to Windows Update directly.

Thanks for your comment!

The Button “Check for Updates” on the “Windows defender definitions
haven’t been updated….” screen does not work on by PC if I am behind a
proxy server. Clicking this button always ends in the Error: 0x80244022.
Does the forced update not work with proxies? (my proxy does not require
authentication) Windows update works fine on my machine.

Update within the program should work if AutoUpdate works in the same
situation.

In some cases, difficulties with updating within the program seem to be
resolved by installing all offered critical updates at Windows Update.
