Control+O worked
Aha. That implies that you have a File menu active but can't see it.
So was that only available on the clone? Did you try closing the clone
last?
What do you see if you switch to Fullscreen mode? (Press F11.)
It has a separate set of attributes from normal mode.
Also, here's another thing which sometimes resets persistent attributes
back closer to their defaults: Cascade Windows.
Just for grins do it to both your problem window and the clone.
E.g. select the taskbar icons for each by holding down a Ctrl- key
while clicking on them and then right-click on one and select Cascade.
That will mean Cascade the Group and protect any other windows from
the operation. Otherwise you should minimize all windows, restore the
ones you want involved and right-click the Taskbar to select the operation.
Again make sure that you close the clone last.
Also, since it appears that you have an active but unseen File menu
let's check if you similarly have an active but unseen View menu.
E.g. see if the Favorites bar can be toggled on and off with Ctrl-i.
Unfortunately there is no single keystroke to get into the Customize
Toolbar dialog (where you could do a Reset) but you might as well
try Alt-V,T,b and Alt-V,T,C as if you can see the menu. You never
know...
I still cannot work without all the "Yahoo" nonsense on my screen.
Do you have some Yahoo browser extensions installed?
Perhaps you should try removing them? For a quick test uncheck
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)
In order to satisfy the restart caveat do it using the Internet Properties
tool with all IE windows closed. Use Task Manager to verify that
iexplore.exe is not active. (Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc, and press I on the
TM's Processes tab.) Start Internet Properties either from the Control
Panel or by Run... control inetcpl.cpl (Press Win-R and enter that.)
<title>298931 - How to Disable Third-Party Tool Bands and Browser Helper Objects</title>
If that gets rid of it you can use a tool such as BHODemon (from
DefinitiveSolutions) to refine your diagnosis.
Good luck

First of all, thanks for the time and effort to try to
help me. When I followed your advice, my clone looked and
acted exactly the same as my original, no menu, no toolbar.
Control+O worked, but the Alt shortcuts did not.
Interestingly enough, my computer (HP) has a "connect"
button on top which opens a Yahoo webpage. That page
looks different from IE6, but has all my favorites, etc.
So, while I have found a "workaround" I still cannot work
without all the "Yahoo" nonsense on my screen. Still
looking for the IE6 answer.
Thanks, Geno
