No Terminal Service in XP Pro

Did an upgrade from Windows 2000 Pro to XP Pro, then did
service pack and all the critical updates on win update

Win2K Pro system had Win Terminal Services Client on it,
which I removed post-XP install. My next discovery was no
Remote Desktop Connection icon in Programs / Accessories /
Communications ... did a search for wstsc.exe and found a
copy in system32 directory, made shortcut, re-named the
shorrcut and dumped it in the appropriate place in All
Users. So that's working OK...

However, Services doesn't show a terminal service entry
and there is no Remote tab in the System Item in the
Control Panel.

All of this is being done through the Administrator
account and the other Win XP Pro system in the Win2K
domain has normal operation of other Remote Desktop.

Any ideas on where to go on this one, short of a clean re-
install? As everything else seems normal is there a
manual means to install the terminal services service?

Hmmmm....

There's no terminal services service - it's just Remote Desktop, and if you
don't see the option in System, I'm not sure what to tell you...is there
anything in your system logs that looks funky?

I've never seen this happen, but I am not a fan of upgrades in place...I
always recommend a clean install to make sure everything runs smoothly. You
tend to get better performance, too.

The terminal service runs on an XP Pro machine to host remote desktop
connections. So you will find a
terminal service among the services listed on an XP Pro machine.

Sorry, I phrased that badly - just meant that it's *called* Remote Desktop

Jeffrey's posted this advice in the past:

From an earlier MS Post:

Do you have a REMOTEPG.DLL file in your SYSTEM32 directory? If so,
try
reregistering it.

regsvr32 remotepg.dll

If that doesn't do the trick, I'd do a repair install--i.e. re-install XP
from the current running version over itself. I think there's a good chance
that will clear it up.
