Hello,
Your software is telling you that the interface is either not recognised or is
corrupt. The interface is a set of procedural calls to the underlying software
that is XP. Those calls can ONLY be made by a Digital Device (in the case of
Movie Maker) If you are trying to use a USB device via Movie Maker you are more
than likely going to receive all manner of error messages (although at least
one person recently insists they have captured DV video using a USB device)
If you are NOT using a DV camera then I suggest you uninstall whatever software
came with your capture device and reboot twice...then visit the directory where
that software was installed and delete it and all of the contents...follow that
by re-installing your software.
If you ARE using a DV camera then you should power down the machine, remove the
Firewire card and reboot a couple of times....then re-install the card watching
carefully for screen prompts.......If it fails!!!! then do the
following...Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager. look for the
Firewire Card and click on Properties and read the status of the card....if it
says that there is a fault then it may be you have a duff card OR its not
properly seated in its PCI slot....in addition, I have heard that Texas
Instruments chipset on their firewire cards do not always work well with Movie
Maker. I can't say whether that's a just remark or not...but its worth trying a
different card if your is a TI
Whilst looking at the Device Manager you should look for Exclamation marks or
red icons next to any device. If you find any you should ask yourself.....Have
I intentionally disabled that device or, where is my service contract
If all else fails take it to Niagara Falls and up to the top of the circular
observation tower and see if you can throw it into the middle of the Canadian
side of the falls
))))...OR see if you can hit the Maid of the Mist
(If
you decide to do that let us know and I will get the local webcam to watch out
for you)
Seriously, Some cameras now store the video in MPeg or Quick time
format......if this is the case with yours then Movie Maker is not going to be
the software of choice for capturing, and if you want to edit with Movie Maker
you are going to need some software to convert it to AVI (for best results) or
WMV. If the format is MPeg, MPE, MPG or VOB and if you own the latest version
of Nero (Ver 6 Reloaded) you can with great ease convert it to AVI and edit it
in Movie Maker (I have just done the film "The Fast & The Furious" using that
method...the quality is Very Good too)
Hope these ramblings help a little and let us all know if you are going to
Niagara

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
