This is true, also there is something called a fax server in XP.

Yip....... the only thing I'm trying to figure out is...... how on earth do
you setup the fax number?, send the fax?, set the fax software to receive
the fax to a document rather than straight to the printer? (noting this is
on a 9x machine, not XP).

A fax is sent via the telephone net.
It can only be used via broadband if you know a way to connect to a fax
on the telephone net from internet.

There are such bridges between internet and the phone net, but it
usually costs money to get such a connection.

Somebody who sets up such a service has to pay for the internet
connection, the server, the technical connection to phone lines, a
number of phone lines, and the costs for the phone calls which are made
via those phone lines.
So it cannot be a free service.

If you want to call another computer which also has a fax program it can
be free because then it all goes via internet.
But then it would be better to send pictures and text in another form
than the fax format. Email or files, for example.

Cheers for the info........ had a strange niggling feeling it wouldn't be
available for nothing :o(

Ah well...... just have to stick to e-mails I guess (atleast, for now
anyway).
