No start/exit/login/logoff sounds :-(

Strange problem. After installing XP Pro I get no sounds for the
events "Windows start", "Windows exit", "Login" and "Logout". All
other sounds seems to work right.

The sounds for the events are defined (and tested).

I use automatic login (from TweakUI), but the dialogs "Loading user
data", "Windows is starting" and "Saving user data", "Windows is
shutting down" are all displayed during start/stop. But no sound.

What is the logic in that "TweakUI/General/Beep on errors (verify that
the box is checked)". Why does MS link the "System Beep" with the
startup and shutdown sounds? Isn't the system beep the build-in
speaker?

And the of course: How do I get the startup/shutdown sounds AND still
not the system beeps from the build-in speaker (ok, I can disconnect
it, but that not a real solution). And hits and tips on that.

BTW: Nice page, to bad I didn't find it before :-)

I'll check later (at work now, the problem is on my home PC, but I
don't have access to the microsoft-groups at home, my ISPs fault :-)

You may want to use the free Microsoft newsserver msnews.microsoft.com
alias pssnews.msn.com

Good tip, to bad my news-program (Forte Agent) doesn't support
multipple news-servers until next version :-( But I'll keep that in
mind then :-) Until then I'll check the groups from work instead.

Although off-topic, I recommend to use the free "Hamster" local server
for news (and mails) in addition. It pulls the news from different
newsservers. In "Forté Agent", you need to connect to the localhost
127.0.0.1 only after installing that server. Hope that helps.

In TweakUI, General page, ensure that 'Beep on errors' is checked. That
(for some odd reason) is what triggers playing these sounds. You can
have the error sound in the general Sound scheme set to None
