My PC had a reformat done a few days ago. I can only restart or shutdown.
The standby is greyed out and cannot be used. How do I initiate it back on?
I use the standby function alot.
TIA

Did you check the BIOS setting ? I think if the BIOS is set wrong,
it can prevent standby from showing up. On my retail motherboard
(not a Dell/HP/Gateway/Acer), there is an entry under Advanced:ACPI.
Some motherboards offer S1, S3, S1&S3 as ACPI states. S3 is the
Standby Suspend to RAM option. If it was S1 only, that would probably
explain it. When you change the BIOS, don't forget to use the
"Save and Exit" option when finished, to save the changes.

Changing the BIOS setting, might not be immediately reflected
in Windows on the next boot. If not, you'd be looking for a
tool like "dumppo.exe" from Microsoft, and its Administrative Override
options. Dumppo runs in a command (MSDOS) window. It allows you
to verify the current settings first. Then force new sleep
settings. It'll probably take a reboot after that, to
check for changes.

There are probably other ways to do it, but that is what I've used.

Have you reinstalled all your motherboard hardware and chipset drivers from
the manufacturer's web site or the disk that cam with the PC?
