No space on Network drive

After an XP-client has tried to modify the drive
permission on a Windows 2000 Server with SVP-2, this
network drive shows 1 GB space and 0 byte free only.
Consequently no user has write permission on ths drive.

The true drive information (250 GB space and 50 GB free)
is available at the server console only.

Has somebody an idea how to solve this problem??
Many thanks

How did the client try to modify the drive permissions? What permissions
did/do they have there to begin with?
